Launched in 2012, Depop is the new go to destination to either grab a bargain or sell unwanted items. I've been on Depop as few months now and I love it. Its so easy to use and a great way to sell off unwanted clothes and make some extra cash. Winner!
Depop is a stylish and simple alternative to tradition online marketplaces such as Ebay, Amazon and Etzy. It's simple layout, similar to Instagram makes this app really easy to use! Sign up is quick and easy plus payments are secure and made through Paypal. There is a Feed to scroll throughout the market place and see what sellers have, you can follow your favourite sellers and add items to sell in minutes!
What can you sell?
Anything from Clothing, Accessories, Footwear, Makeup, Electrics and more. Restrictions do apply and you can view a full list of prohibited products here
What does it cost?
Depop is available to download for Apple and android users for Free. Its also Free to upload and advertise items for sale. The seller is only charged a fee if they successfully sell an items with instant payment through the app. This fee is 10% off the selling price,
Some tips for selling!
Take your own images and in Natural light. Depop do recommend you Don't use picture colleagues, a flash or filters. DO pick a background that is Tidy and simple. Don’t use photographs off the internet (unless you own them of course). You can add up to 4 images per product.
Be informative! Give as much information as possible when describing your item. Make sure to include size, colour, condition and material. The more information you provide the less questions you get! I would also recommend stating your returns policy here!
Be Honest! If there is a missing button or sequins, small tear, chip etc Photograph it and state the fault. Most items being sold on Depop are Pre Loved so most buyers are aware not everything is like new! Do not sell counterfeit goods- Depop has a strict No Fake's policy!
Provide Proof of postage! It is always best to track items you ship for the security of both yourself and the buyer. Simply mail your seller the tracking number after a payment has been made.
Leave Feedback! This will make help you and others to know whether to trust a buyer or seller and improve the overall marketplace.
HashTag!! Be sure to add HashTags to your post but make sure they are relevant to what you are selling!! This will help in getting quicker sales and generate followers. #Simple
Be cautious! Whether you are selling or buying get to know who you are buying from or selling to! Check reviews and any feedback. Make conversation via private messages also.
Over all my experience to date has been great with Depop! I have sold many items and nearly everyone I got to know through the app have been so friendly and thankfully genuine buyers. I have also found and purchased some hidden little gems! As they say, someone's trash is another's treasure!
